Wanted (2009), Dil Bole Hadipaa (2009)

Wanted – The preview, where Sallu kicks up a table with an assortment of things on it, and then selects which item to kick on the baddie – was scary! No, it did not inspire fear, but it made the mind numb… Oh my God!! Kya shot hai…. Pop! There goes my brain!

Sallu who danced so well in No Entry, was reduced to doing  idotic and vulgar pelvic thrusts in the movie! While these steps are a hit in Tollywood, they didnt look fly in bollywood… It reduced him to an ape who was mimicking what was being shown to him… Not suave and smooth at all! Too much movement, no finesse!

4 stars for this piece of crap .. ha ha ha ha ha.. how much was paid for these reviews Sallu bhai? Movie did well coz of the timing of its release during Navratri and Eid….

Ayesha Takia breaks her way into being reduced to a screaming, crying, voluptuous bimbo, for her role required little acting skills… Just a tight top to show off the plump chest! The face required some acting to milk its Oomph, so Sallu bhai asks her to take out her tongue and puts his hands in her mouth to teach her to whistle… And then the bimbo grabs his fingers and holds them lustily in between her teeth while keeping a thoroughly innocent expression! Whew! Thanks to the censors for giving it an A!

The action was atrocious, yet satisfying… Given that I like violent movies, the spray of blood from the baddie’s mouth as Sallu kicks him was a nice touch. Great imagination (or inspiration from various hollywood movies – makes me wonder why didnt someone patent that blood spray shot! Imagine the royalty wealth he could have amassed from such a patent!)

Story was totally unimaginative and more twist than the curls in Maggi noodles! If the movie was a building, it had a 1970’s structure (story) coated in 2009 Asian Paints colours (action)! It reeked of innumerable Amitabh Bachchan movies. In fact, one can easily replace Sallu with Amitabh, Ayesha with Zeenat/Parveen, The baddie with Shakti Kapoor and viola! You have an Amitabh movie from 1970 with an equally mind-numbing story with contemporary action scenes and vulgar pelvic thrusts dance moves famous in South Indian cinema!! It even has a rape scene with the commissioner’s daughter in it! Perhaps Prabhudeva had not seen “Taken”, else he could have had the tough talking Police Commissioner taking to the streets in a hunt for his daughter! HA!

The humor is atrocious and UN-wanted! No connection to the story at all…. Fail to see humor in a fat guy trying to woo Ayesha and her making fun of him! Also fail to see another roly-poly fellow interacting with an inspector who are chasing a robber and the fattie giving maa-behen ki gaalis (Mother-Sister Bad-words) to the inspector at the behest of the robber! Wonder how the censors passed this piece of crap for humor and how come the Police didnt object to it! Thoroughly insulting to the cops! It was almost as if the director forgot to introduce humor in the movie and then when some people queued up outside his office and expressed their desire to be in the movie that he choose to give them these comic roles!

4 stars? My ass! This gets 2 stars out of 5! How can the (so called) critics dish out 4 stars for this after they have watched Kaminey in the same year? Were they brain dead? Or did their brains really get fried with that “pop” I heard while watching the previews??!

Dil Bole Haddipaa : Touted as a comeback vehicle for Rani Mukherji, DBH sees her getting paired with the HOT Shahid Kapoor! If Ayesha looks like Sallu’s daughter in Wanted, Rani looks like Shahid’s Aunty in DBH… Fortunately she can still act, but in DBH, rani goes overboard while trying to please…

The scenes in the movie are raw and feel chopped! The dance steps are good and will be copied by many… The nautanki scenes were also done good… This is a family movie with Cricket as its backdrop… However, the level of cricket shown in the movie is equal to gulli cricket and the movie fails to utilise the sport the way it was used in Lagaan! It also cashes in on Shahid’s recent success after Kaminey… He was wasted in DBH.

Fun fact: I was confused to find Sherlyn’s looks getting changed in the movie and kept wondering why…. It was at the end that I realised Rakhi was also in the movie! Between the three of them, they managed to have an average cup size of C!

Dil bole haddipaa? Naaa… Dil maange a better movie!! 1.5/5

hey Spike !! thank god for online movies…I cudnt bear Wanted even on a bore to death day !! as far as DBH ..i think Yash raj productions should wake up and realise that there is world beyond punjab and punjabis … I absolutely loved rani in Bikini and oh so cute Shahid.. but songs / dialogues / story ..was all so blah …lats scene with that speech …give us some break …give us a good movie … 🙂 wheres the era of chandinis n veer zara 🙂

    • December 15, 2009 at 09:05

      Hi Preeti,
Tell me abt it… Yashraj and the Deols, both should wake up… Perhaps Yashraj should cast the Deols in their movies and then no one will complaint. Rani is one actress I have like watching consistently. peppy and cute, she rocked the bikini. Must be the bad direction that failed to make her n Sahid look good on screen. Speech had me laughing… I kept thinking – those people are actually listening with such interest, really? What do you think of kaminey?

Shahid did good in DBH… it was not his and Rani’s fault the movie bombed.. I blame the director…. Shodily shot!! But the dialogues are better written than Blue… If you want to watch another Shahid movie that not popular.. I suggest you watch Shikhar… Its a good one based on the Lavassa project near Pune….. The story is well put together and I liked the fact that its got a does of reality and shows the real and ugly side of politics… Really good movie…

btw, Main aur Mrs Khanna is even more atrocious than Wanted… Me n my pals shut it off after the 1st 5 mins 😛 Thats FIVE mins 🙂

  6. October 23, 2009 at 19:32

2 atrocious movies, i gather … ayesha takia ia such a good actreess .. why is she getting bimbo-fied!! .. its high time rani got married now ..btw, just noticed the shift to wordpress .. sorry !!! 🙂

    • October 24, 2009 at 12:04

yep… i agree with u about Ms Takia…. totally wasted in the movie…. Rani has nothing to do with shaadi, but her comeback fizzled out.

  7. October 22, 2009 at 17:28

why would anyone think that wanted would be half a decent watch! the trailer itself was a give away!! :p my bro watched it and M asked him how the last scene where he keeps running all over the mill and he goes well, lets put it this way, it was quite run of the mill! hehehehe!

DBH… sometimes i feel rani wasted herself by sticking to the Yashraj camp! tho i havent seen this one.

    cheers!

    • October 24, 2009 at 12:06

      Hi Abha,
Ur right. I watched it out of curiousity as some ppl i knew were praising it left n right. Now i know they have ‘poor’ taste (kidding)….
lol @ M’s witty liner… Rani could have done so much better… the whold bikini act and a speech @ the end is kinda cliched…. remember Madhuri in her comeback vehicle?

  8. October 9, 2009 at 23:55

Wanted is a remake…I hated all the songs…DBH looks quite a cliche..

    • October 10, 2009 at 06:24

yep yep and yep! ur right on both counts….

  9. October 7, 2009 at 11:00

Aren’t I intelligent? I wait and wait till you guys see the movies and post the reviews and only then decide which films to watch.
    What about Wake up Sid?

    • Spike
      October 9, 2009 at 08:44

yep…. i used to do that too, lekin proximity to an inexpensive theater did me in… have not watched SID yet… dunno when but will watch it as i like Konkona’s acting…. to say i have the hots for her would be very close to the truth…

      • October 9, 2009 at 22:54

Watched Wake up Sid today..its WOW! And ur Konkana looks stunnin too..u shld watch it…its mushy though

        • October 10, 2009 at 06:23

  12. September 30, 2009 at 12:20

Well Well Spikie M not being way toooooo kind…I sed its one of of best reviews written by u..Not the best review!
Plz her skills in all the movies are reduced to some irrelevant! For sure I shall let u how did i find district 9…Going by ur recommendation…Be prepared to get brickbats if I am disappointed and a treat if I n’joy the movie 😛
    and u r most welcome 🙂

    • September 30, 2009 at 14:56

hi Valerine, Do lemme know how u find District 9… 🙂

  13. September 30, 2009 at 04:32

Horrible films. Aren’t they? I guess ‘Wanted’ is a hit because people were longing for some fight movies of 80s.

Dil Bole Hadippa…what were they thinking? 😐

    • September 30, 2009 at 14:55

      Hi Solilo,
Welcome to the blog…. They are both bad movies… you are right about wanted… very 70-80-ish type of movie with lots of characters and twists…

DBH is a kiddish movie that looks like it was made in 1 day… not YRF stuff!

  14. September 29, 2009 at 18:55

Well Spikie I think this is one of the best reviews I have read…I so second you that Ayesha just does it all by her tight tops and weird expressions…..She can’t act for nuts….Well I am sure the movie is overrated…

Well for Dil bole hadippa..i thought it was a good movie, but most of the reviews I have read of course including yours is so disappointing and now I am considering not to watch the movie at all…In an interview somewhere I read Rani claiming to look younger that Shahid and I guess she doesnt want to accept the fact that she is looking like his anty…..
But ya I shall watch District 9 as per your suggestion 😛

    • September 29, 2009 at 22:19

      Hi Valerine,
Best? wow! Thanks! I think you are being wayyyyyyyy tooooooo kind…. I think I misspoke… Ayesha does know how to act… Just that her skills were reduced to being a bimbo in this movie….

Dil bole Haddipaa is a kiddie movie… Rani is good as an actress, lekin she tried too hard to impress in this movie… Lemme know how do u find dist 9! thanks 4 commenting… 😛

  16. September 27, 2009 at 15:20

what a load of crap you managed to watch!! how do you even sit through it all? aunty is being kind i think, shahid was a kid in the pepsi/coke ad that came on tv with rani and SRK.. wanted, the less spoken about sallu the better, but cant stop myself from feeling that he looks a waste completely..whats with those eye bags????

    • September 28, 2009 at 12:05

Hi Sujata, well, staying with family has its advantages and its disadvantages… this is one of the latter 😉 I redeemed myself by watching Gran Torino!
As for the puffy eyes, so much dancing + old age = soreness = lots of liquor = puffy eyes!

Spot on about your Wanted review. I was stumped half way through, couldn’t stop asking myself, “if this is a 4-star movie, what will be a 1 star movie like??”
    Absolute crap.

Haven’t seen Dil bole yet.. so can’t say.
